Last year, Galliford Try donated £2,500 towards a puppy called Copper from the Surrey Police Dog School, who was bred as part of a scheme by the world-leading police dog training school.
Now as a newly qualified operational police dog, Copper has an important role to keep everyone in the community safe and has been the ‘ultimutt’ team member at Surrey and Sussex Police ever since. His first call to action was an arrest during a night shift where he was deployed during a suspected robbery. The suspect tried to flee the scene when Copper found him hiding in the bushes and quickly detained him with ease.
James Liddle, Area Manager for Galliford Try Facilities Management, said: “Well trained dogs are important to the police force and the community. Copper is a perfect example of what a good trained dog should be and we are happy to have sponsored such a smart canine.”
Geoff Wiltshire, Dog School and Operational Manager for Surrey and Sussex Police said: “It should be noted that few dogs make it through our puppy system and remain with Surrey and Sussex Police, however we are delighted that Copper made the grade and is now working with his handler in Sussex Police covering the Brighton area. He continues to work with his handler in Brighton and is a valued member of the team.”
