The Morrison Construction-built sportscotland National Training Centre at Inverclyde has been named one of the winners at the recent Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) awards.
The centre, designed by Reiach and Hall Architects, is a fully-inclusive residential sports facility, featuring flexible training spaces with a particular emphasis on accessibility. When built it was the first Disability Discrimination Act compliant sport facility in the UK.
It caters for indoor and outdoor sports and activities ranging from gymnastics to tennis, and hockey to pilates, and is available to everyone from school children to high performance athletes, including a number of Scottish Paralympians who used the centre ahead of the recent Tokyo games.
The winners of the RIAS awards now go forward as the longlist for the RIAS Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award which will be decided in November this year.
