The Galliford Try team delivering the A303 Sparkford to Ilchester scheme on behalf of National Highways, has renewed its sponsorship of local motorcycle race team, True Heroes Racing for the second year running.
Based in Yeovilton, True Heroes Racing is the UK's first and only motorcycle race team dedicated to supporting wounded, injured and sick UK Service personnel and veterans. As a non-profit organisation that has been operating since 2012, they aim to assist military personnel in gaining a renewed sense of direction, improved social skills as well as exposure to new experiences and technical skills among like-minded individuals from the UK military.
As a business, Galliford Try has a long standing commitment to supporting military and ex-forces personnel as a signatory of The Armed Forces Corporate Covenant since 2016, providing opportunities to service leavers to transition into a new sector.
The team delivering the A303, which is creating a high-quality dual carriage way link between London and the South West, identified True Heroes Racing as a worthy organisation to become involved with, as part of their programme to create social value while working in the local community
Chris Hill, Project Director for Galliford Try’s Infrastructure, said: “I’m delighted that, as a project team, we can offer our support to such a great organisation for another year. At Galliford Try, supporting our Armed Forces personnel is extremely important to us so continuing the partnership with True Heroes Racing is great. What True Heroes Racing has achieved to date is brilliant – long may it continue.”
Phil Spencer, Founder of True Heroes Racing, said: “To benefit from the support of Galliford Try once again this year is great. The main limiting factor to the amount of unique opportunities we can offer our beneficiaries from the UK Military and Veteran communities is funding. So, to gain a financial partner like Galliford Try is a real benefit to what we are achieving.
“Add to this the fact our team HQ is at RNAS Yeovilton, where I’m a serving Royal Navy Warrant Officer, means we will witness first-hand the A303 road improvement works Galliford Try are completing. Who knows, we might even be able to help them commission the new road with our race bikes in the future!”
To date, True Heroes Racing’s achievements include having the first double amputee to compete in national level British Superbike motorcycle racing and numerous national award nominations.
