Galliford Try makes a splash at Thames Water Raft Race

Date 22 Jul 2022

Galliford Try’s team working with Thames Water once again took part in the Thames Water annual raft race in support of WaterAid. The one-mile race has been running for over 20 years and, this year, saw around 40 rafts sporting the theme of ‘Nautical Mischief’ battle it out on the River Thames.

Galliford Try’s teams ‘Nauti Buoy’ and ‘Nauti but Ice’ as the trusty raft names, with the crews donning red Popeye t-shirts and sailors hats.

The start of the race was signalled by a flag and a horn then followed the traditional route from Reading Rowing Club by Caversham Bridge downstream to Fry’s Island and back to the club. Each raft had to pass a finishing buoy and reach the slipway, with one team member getting on to a floating platoon to deliver the finishing flag!

After a fierce battle on the waves, Galliford Try came in seventh and thirteenth, raising a sum of more than £2,000 for WaterAid.

Commenting on the day, Justin Fellows, Framework Director, Galliford Try said: “Being a part of this event that supports a great cause is always fun. It raises much-needed funds for people who can benefit from WaterAid’s fantastic work. I’m proud of the team and having two rafts in the water this year was a huge achievement – well done to all those involved.”
