Galliford Try’s Environment business was commended for its work on Yorkshire Water’s Storm Spill Reduction Programme (SSRP) in this year’s Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) East Midlands Merit Awards (EMMAs) in the Design, Studies and Research category.

The annual EMMAs, organised by ICE, celebrate top civil engineering projects, individuals and groundbreaking research in the region. Galliford Try was part of the team commended for the Yorkshire Water SSRP, an initiative that sought a 20% reduction in activations of the water company’s 2,200 storm overflows.

Working together with a team including GHD, RES, GreenBlue Urban, SuDSPlanter and Aqua Consultants, the project employed the latest technology in data gathering, network hydraulic modelling and construction techniques to enable the discovery and implementation of optimal, sustainable and innovative solutions.

The award highlights the benefit of early engagement from engineers, project managers, scientists and hydrologists who were all integral parts of the design process, successfully adopting this approach from concept design to delivery.

Mark Shadrick, Managing Director for Galliford Try’s Environment business, said: “We are delighted that the team have received this fantastic recognition for their efforts. Collaboration, a holistic approach and transparency have been the route to success for this project, creating sustainable solutions for the future.”
