Galliford Try’s Infrastructure team celebrated the opening of the Stoke station project with dignitaries from Stoke-on-Trent Council at a ceremonial time capsule burial.
The £29m project has reshaped and revitalised the area around Stoke station, improving transport interchanges between the rail and bus networks and enhancing the public realm.
The opening of the new gateway for the city was celebrated with the burial of a time capsule at the foot of the re-located Victorian-era statue of Josiah Wedgwood, the pottery magnate who helped establish Stoke’s reputation as a centre for ceramics.
Stoke-on-Trent Lord Mayor Steve Watkins and Cllr Finlay Gordon-McCusker, Cabinet member for Transport, Infrastructure and Regeneration and members of the Wedgwood family were present alongside Liz Bell, Operations Director for Galliford Try’s Local Authorities team.
Liz Bell commented: “The team has produced a fantastic result that forms a wonderful new gateway to the city. Our business has a strong track record in multi-modal interface projects, and the Stoke scheme only adds to that. I congratulate and thank all the stakeholders involved for their contribution and collaboration.”
