Galliford Try Building East Midlands has been awarded a £12.8m contract from the Department for Education (DfE) to replace the existing building for Spon Gate Primary School.
The project will consist of the replacement of the existing school with a new build one-form entry school, while refurbishing the existing locally-listed Spon Gate building to provide facilities for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and those who need additional support within a mainstream setting.
The new school will be Net Zero Carbon in Operation (NZCiO) to meet the DfE drive for a more sustainable education estate and align with the school’s ‘learning for life’ ethos, by inspiring future generations through a sustainable learning environment.
The site is located close to Coventry city centre in an area of archaeological interest and a conservation area, so engagement with the planners and their Heritage and Conservation Officers is key to developing a scheme sensitive to the local area.
Claire Jackson, Education Director for Galliford Try, said: “Securing the new Spon Gate Primary School is a testament to our growing partnership with the Department for Education. The new building will offer modern, inclusive spaces that support every pupil’s learning journey, while embracing sustainability through its Net Zero Carbon in Operation design.”
Jon Marston, Managing Director for Galliford Try Building East Midlands business, commented: “We are delighted to be delivering the new Spon Gate Primary School, a project that exemplifies our commitment to creating sustainable, inclusive learning environments. This development will positively impact pupils, families, and the wider community for generations to come.”
