Galliford Try’s Environment division is proud to announce that its ‘Protect and Prevent’ programme has won Health and Safety Initiative of the Year at this year’s Water Industry Awards, organised in conjunction with Utility Week.

The award recognises the business’s proactive and data-led approach to reducing service strikes across its operations, a significant industry issue. The ‘Protect and Prevent’ programme introduces a range of behavioural and procedural improvements aimed at increasing awareness, enhancing safety culture, and delivering measurable improvements in performance.

Mark Shadrick, Managing Director of Galliford Try’s Environment business, commented: “Health and safety is at the heart of everything we do, and this award is a fantastic recognition of the commitment our teams have shown to continuously improving standards. ‘Protect and Prevent’ demonstrates how innovative thinking, backed by a clear strategy and strong leadership, can create meaningful change for our people and the wider industry.”

In addition to this win, the Environment division was also proud to be shortlisted in two other categories:
•    Alliance or Partnership of the Year, for the Exmouth Outfall project, a technically complex and collaborative marine infrastructure scheme.
•    Wastewater Innovation Project of the Year, for the Winchburgh Wastewater Treatment Works, delivered through ESD, with Scottish Water, which showcased innovation in sustainable wastewater treatment.

The announcement was made at a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole, where Galliford Try also sponsored the Rising Star category, celebrating emerging talent across the UK water industry.
