Galliford Try scooped Organisation of the Year at the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) East Midlands Merit Awards, alongside securing several accolades that highlight the Group’s expertise across a range of sectors.
The coveted title of Organisation of the Year, acknowledges Galliford Try’s “outstanding project delivery, stakeholder management, and social value commitments to local communities”.
Health and Safety proved a top area too, with Galliford Try’s Environment business receiving a Merit Award for the proactive approach to risk elimination prior to mobilisation, as well as the successful delivery within a highly constrained site at the Hill View Road Storm Overflow Upgrade. The project team demonstrated how early design engagement, digital innovation and a strong safety culture can collectively deliver exceptional health, safety and wellbeing outcomes.
Meanwhile, Galliford Try Infrastructure was successful in the Large Project and Social Value category, earning acclaim for work at the Melton Mowbray Distributor Road (MMDR). Delivered on behalf of Leicestershire County Council, the 7km bypass was designed to ease congestion while incorporating innovative carbon-saving measures, including cold-mix asphalt made with 92% recycled materials.
In the same category, the Ashbourne Reborn initiative, delivered through the Midlands Highway Alliance on behalf of Derbyshire County Council and Derbyshire Dales District Council, received a commendation for revitalising the historic town centre, restoring Grade II listed streetscapes and improving footfall by around 30%.
The MMDR project also received a highly commended recognition in the Climate Mitigation and Adaptation category, further underscoring its sustainability credentials.
Special success came at the ICE London, East of England and South East England Awards, where Esther Fobi, Graduate Civil Engineer for Galliford Try Infrastructure working on the South East Aylesbury Link Road scheme, received The Princess Royal Award for Emerging Engineers 2026. Esther impressed judges with her presentation ‘Built In, Left Out: A technical framework for construction site access and travel’, which combined a strong focus on sustainability and social value with practical recommendations for industry stakeholders.
Esther will now progress to the global final, competing against regional winners from across the world in October 2026.
Commenting on the awards, David Lowery, Managing Director for Infrastructure Services, said: “These awards are a fantastic recognition of the exceptional talent, innovation and dedication across Galliford Try. To be named Organisation of the Year, alongside success across a number of categories, reflects our strong commitment to delivering high-quality, sustainable projects that make a positive difference to communities.
“I’m particularly proud of our teams for their collaborative approach, and of Esther’s achievement in progressing to the global stage. We wish her every success.”
