Galliford Try has been recognised across three leading industry awards, the Highways UK Awards, Highways UK Excellence Awards, and Highways Heroes Awards, celebrating the outstanding commitment to sustainability, inclusion, and individual excellence in delivering the A47 Road Development Programme (RDP).

The A47 RDP Tuddenham and Blofield dualling scheme projects have been shortlisted in two categories for Environmental Sustainability and Health, Wellbeing and Inclusion at the Highways UK awards, organised by
Highways Magazine.

The Environmental Sustainability nomination recognises the team’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and enhance biodiversity across its sites. Initiatives include bespoke seed mix trials, which successfully achieved the target of nine plant species per square metre, the repurposing of felled trees into friendship benches for local schools and the adoption of T&M’s fuel serve system that has significantly reduced vehicle movements and improved environmental protection on site.

In partnership with Lynch Plant Hire, the project has also trialled hydrogen-powered technology, resulting in a 14% reduction in carbon emissions. The integration of Qflow’s digital carbon monitoring system ensures accurate tracking of emissions throughout the project lifecycle.

The nomination in the Health, Wellbeing and Inclusion category celebrates the project’s success in engaging underrepresented individuals in the eastern region, including long-term unemployed and prison leavers, helping to build a more inclusive workforce.

Additionally, Christopher Puttrell, Traffic and Logistics Manager, has been nominated for the Rising Star award at the Highways UK Excellence Awards. Christopher’s leadership and innovation in traffic management across the A47 Blofield and Tuddenham schemes have set a new standard for collaboration and operational excellence, earning him recognition as one of the industry’s emerging talents.

Meanwhile, at the Highways Heroes Awards, Keeley Russell, Senior Customer and Social Value Manager on the A47, has been shortlisted for her outstanding contribution to social value and employability. Keeley has championed local employment and founded the employment and skills roundtable, which brings together Norfolk County Council, Department for Work and Pensions, and the Construction Industry Training Board to create meaningful opportunities for disadvantaged individuals across the eastern region.

The £300m project will upgrade the A47 between North Tuddenham and Easton in Norfolk to a dual carriageway, completing a dual carriageway between Norwich and Dereham, supporting economic growth and easing congestion in the area.

Glennan Blackmore, Managing Director for Galliford Try Infrastructure, said: “These nominations reflect our team’s dedication to delivering projects that go beyond construction driving environmental innovation, social impact, and professional excellence. The team looks forward to celebrating with fellow finalists at the upcoming awards ceremonies.”

Winners will be announced on 23 September for Highways Awards UK, 15 October for Highways UK Excellence Awards and 26 November for the Highways Heroes Awards.
