Galliford Try’s Environment business has been named as a finalist for three top prizes including the coveted Contractor of the Year, Natural Capital Initiative of the Year and Rising Star for Kai Woodman in this year’s Water Industry Awards, run by Utility Week.
The nomination for Contractor of the Year follows Galliford Try’s success in this category last year, and demonstrates the business’s continued commitment to innovative techniques and sustainability, while maintaining high health and safety and employment standards. It recognises contractors who can best demonstrate a combination of commercial success, agenda-setting innovation, environmental stewardship and workforce best practice.
The business has also been recognised for its efforts in leaving the environment in a better state than before and mitigating the impacts of climate change, going above and beyond normal practice, with a shortlisting for Natural Capital Initiative of the Year for its work at the Mansfield Sustainable Flood Resilience scheme, which is creating a sustainable drainage scheme that includes an innovative urban rain garden.
Finally, Kai Woodman, Senior Planner in the Thames Water team has been named a finalist in the Rising Star category. The award seeks to reward newcomer to the industry who has made their mark through their ideas, approach, and hard work, making a quantifiable contribution to the business and/or its customers and other stakeholders.
Stephen Slessor, Managing Director for Galliford Try’s Environment Business, commented: “I am incredibly proud of the team for being nominated in these categories which span some of the key priorities of our Sustainable Growth Strategy.
“The past 18 months have been an exciting time as we grow our business, and I am delighted that our progress has been recognised in this way. A particular well done goes to the team at Mansfield and Kai and I look forward to the awards in June.”
The Water Industry Awards are the industry’s celebration of the very best practice from the frontline of the water sector. The winners will be announced at the WIA ceremony at The Vox, Birmingham on 29 June.
