Galliford Try, the FTSE 250-listed construction group, announces that its Building business has been appointed to build a new munitions handling facility at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk.

The £60m contract is being delivered through the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) on behalf of the US Air Force (USAF) based at Lakenheath. The project will create three new munitions handling buildings, including storage, testing, maintenance and administrative facilities.

The award marks the first scheme that Galliford Try will deliver for the USAF, building on its strong track record of working on RAF bases in the Eastern region, including RAF Marham and RAF Coningsby.

Cliff Wheatley, Managing Director for Galliford Try Building, commented: “We have a strong track record in delivering high quality facilities for the RAF throughout the country. We are delighted to now be working with USAF and our partners at the DIO, to deliver this complex project that is crucial to the operation of the Lakenheath base.”
