Galliford Try’s Environment team has been mentoring the next generation of engineers at Priestley College in Warrington as part of its sponsorship of the EDT (Engineering Development Trust) Industrial Gold Project.
The EDT is an independent registered charity whose mission is to encourage young people to fulfil their potential through careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The support from Galliford Try involves facilitating workshops and away days, as well as helping with the organisation, transport, accommodation and food for the students.
Over the past couple of months, the Environment business’s team in Warrington have been involved in mentoring Priestley College in their project to research, design and build a sampling backboard prototype. The two-day workshop hosted by Liverpool University was an opportunity for teams to utilise the facilities at the university for construction and testing. Overall, the workshop was a success with the students being able to finalise their design and complete the initial construction of the backboard.
The final submission of the project will be completed in April, and we wish we wish the students and all involved the best of luck in their endeavours.
