Galliford Try's Building East Midlands’ Catherine Infant School project has been shortlisted in the Large Non-Residential Scheme of the Year Award for the ProCon Leicestershire Award.

The annual ProCon Leicestershire Awards honour the best new residential, non-residential, infrastructure and regeneration projects, as well as the people who develop, design, and construct winning developments.

Catherine Infant School is the first Net Zero Carbon in Operation (NZCiO) school in Leicestershire, delivered under the Department for Education’s (DfE) School Rebuilding Programme, which aims to rebuild and refurbish over 500 schools across England.

Procured through the DfE Construction Framework 2021, the £14m project replaces the existing facilities of the Ofsted-rated Outstanding school. It is one of 18 schools currently being delivered by Galliford Try as part of the DfE’s commitment to low carbon and NZCiO initiatives.

Designed by Maber, the new building accommodates 420 pupils, including 10 Designated Special Provision spaces. With a strong emphasis on inclusivity, the school supports a richly diverse community where 38 languages are spoken. The building incorporates a range of sustainable features including solar photovoltaic panels, a green roof, a new car park, a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), and direct access to outdoor play spaces from classrooms.

Jon Marston, Managing Director for Galliford Try Building East Midlands, said: “We’re incredibly proud to see Catherine Infant School shortlisted for this award. It’s a landmark project for the region, not only as the first NZCiO school in Leicestershire, but also as a vibrant, inclusive learning environment that reflects the values of the community it serves. This recognition is a testament to the hard work and collaboration of everyone involved.”

Winners will be announced on 13 November at The King Power Stadium, Leicester.
