Adam Bell, Graduate Civil Engineer within Galliford Try’s Environment division, has been shortlisted in the Rising Star category at this year’s New Civil Engineer (NCE) Graduate and Apprentice Awards, recognising his outstanding impact.
Adam joined Galliford Try through the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) QUEST scheme in 2021, completing placements across Infrastructure and Environment before graduating with a first-class MEng (Master of Engineering) in Civil and Structural Engineering in 2024.
Since taking on a full-time role, he has worked on projects for Northumbrian Water, taking sole engineering responsibility for the Witton Gilbert Sewage Treatment Works scheme and has led the successful completion and handover of six schemes, managing site delivery, quality assurance and project closure processes.
As a passionate advocate for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) outreach and mentoring, Adam contributes to wider business improvement initiatives, including circular economy working groups and is actively involved in volunteering as a Scout leader and charity trustee.
Commenting on his shortlisting, Adam, said: “I’m pleased to be named a Rising Star finalist and to have my work recognised at this stage of my career. It’s encouraging to be recognised for an award that highlights the next generation of civil engineering talent and the role they will play in shaping the future of the industry.”
Damian Mortimer, Operations Director for Galliford Try Environment, said: “Adam has been a standout member of the team from day one. What’s impressed me the most is how quickly he’s taken ownership, stepping into responsibilities typically expected of more experienced engineers. He’s played a key role on projects for Northumbrian Water, demonstrating the trust we place in him.
“Adam consistently goes beyond his day-to-day role, supporting improvement initiatives and mentoring others. He has a great attitude and a strong future ahead of him, and I fully believe he deserves this recognition.”
Winners will be announced at a ceremony on 2 July in London. Good luck, Adam!
