Galliford Try’s Building East Midlands business has marked the start of works for a new £5m warehouse and headquarters expansion for public sector buying organisation ESPO, at a ground-breaking ceremony in Enderby.

As part of the ceremony, dignitaries from ESPO, which is managed by six local authorities throughout the East Midlands and East Anglia, joined Jon Marston, Managing Director for Galliford Try Building East Midlands, to witness the first spade in the ground signifying the start of the project.

The 26,000 sq ft extension, designed by IMA Architects, is set to double the storage capacity for ESPO, which offers a wide range of goods and services to the public sector, and a one-stop shop solution to UK schools with over 27,000 catalogue products, 120 frameworks, and bespoke procurement services.

Kristian Smith, Chief Officer for ESPO, commented: "This is an exciting step for us. The last few years have seen unprecedented growth and this extension is our chance to extend our offer to customers and continue to invest in great service.

"We're ideally located at our Enderby base and have great transport links to the rest of the UK, so it makes sense to extend our current site to secure our long-term future on Grove Park.

"The work will also benefit local people and nurture those starting out their career in the construction sector thanks to the commitment from Galliford Try, and we look forward to welcoming them over the next few months.”

Jon Marston, Managing Director for Galliford Try Building East Midlands, commented: “We look forward to completing ESPO's warehouse expansion and building our relationship with the team.

“As part of our commitment to generating wider social value, we are excited to working with stakeholders and our supply chain to provide apprenticeships, on-site training, and work experience on this project that will potentially launch young people into careers in the construction industry.”

The project is set to complete next year.
