Since 2011, Galliford Try has been working with Frasers Property to deliver the prestigious Riverside Quarter project, on the banks of the River Thames.

Through four phases, our business has formed a close partnership with the client, bringing benefits to both parties through mutual understanding and shared learning.

The six blocks added through the project have created over 500 new homes, including 197 affordable ones. The geotechnical challenges of building so close to the Thames required considerable innovation from the engineering teams to prevent land-slip during the basement creation process and the inevitable water ingress throughout the six-year building process.

The site of the development was previously a Shell Oil factory, so intensive remediation of the ground was carried out on all the plots. The groundworks across the scheme were also extensive with over 1,000 piles used throughout the site.

All phases of the development utilised a district heating system, with combined heat and power, and a ground source heat pump, incorporating an aquifer thermal energy storage system. These and other measures, ensured that all the apartments successfully reached the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 standard.
