Working through Network Rail’s CPS framework, the Derby station project saw the significant remodelling of the major strategic junction as part of the Midland mainline upgrade.
The scheme was an integral part of a larger project to re-signal the station and upgrade surrounding track to cut journey times and increase flexibility by segregating services.
The main part of the works involved the construction of a new 320-metre island platform using pre-cast concrete sections. The island was connected to the station by two new lifts, while additionally a new retail space, waiting room and administration facility was created.
Additionally, extensive demolition and reconstruction of the existing platform ends were required to accommodate a new track alignment, alongside he reconfiguration and updating of the M&E and telecoms systems to service the new platforms.
