Beatlie School is an Assisted Special School which serves as a centre of excellence for children and young people aged three to 18 with severe and complex support and profound medial needs.

The new state-of-the-art school features include a sensory garden and hydrotherapy pool and has been designed and built to a low-energy, low-carbon design supported by Scottish Futures Trust Learning Estates Investment Programme funding, which is linked to the ongoing energy performance of the building demonstrated over a 25 year period.

The vision for the new school building is to provide ‘a transformational and bespoke sensory experience to make life and learning the best it can be for the school and local community’.

The project has delivered a smart building where technology is integrated with the building systems to assist in reducing energy demand and to create the best environment for children to develop and flourish in their surroundings.

Assisted technologies are also embedded within the building and can be paired with widely-available smart technology such as Alexa, and can be used by pupils to interact with the building to change lighting colours both internally and externally and change the settings within their environment.

We’re delighted to mark the completion of the new Beatlie School, an inclusive learning space with an innovative use of assistive technology to help meet the complex needs of its pupils. Beatlie now has a state-of-the-art building, designed to be intuitive, joyful and stimulating, allowing its pupils to continue to thrive. Eileen Mackin Project Director - Hub South East Scotland
