Galliford Try has started works on the new Bexley Road Transitional Learning Centre in Eltham, London, marking the third project Galliford Try Building Southern has delivered for the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

The £12m centre is a purpose-built Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) facility delivered through the Southern Construction Framework (SCF) and will replace the former Environmental Curriculum Service site.

Designed by Pozzoni Architecture, it will provide 1,116 sq m of modern teaching space, creating a dedicated environment to support young people with additional learning needs. The facility will also feature outdoor breakout areas designed to enhance sensory learning experiences, alongside horticultural and skills-based training spaces that will support both educational outcomes and positive mental wellbeing.

The project includes enabling works, demolition of existing buildings, extensive earthworks to level the landscape and create a new access road, removal of temporary accommodation, and completion of the surrounding hard and soft landscaping.

Gavin Bridge, Managing Director for Galliford Try Building Southern, said: “We are delighted to have started work on the Bexley Road Transitional Learning Centre and to be supporting the Royal Borough of Greenwich in delivering this important educational facility. The new centre will provide a high-quality, purpose-built environment that will enable young people with SEND to develop valuable skills, gain confidence and access specialist support within a modern learning setting.”

The centre is expected to be completed in autumn next year.
