Galliford Try’s Building North West business has begun work on the refurbishment of the Joint Services Mountain Training Wing (JSMTW) at Halton Training Camp in Lancashire on behalf of the Defence Infrastructure Organisation.

The £3m contract will see a new combined headquarters including new office space and briefing rooms to provide classroom-based learning. A new stores building will provide facilities to support outdoor activities, while living accommodation will also be created to double training capacity up to 48 students.

Also being delivered is a new activity centre, repurposing an existing building, which will include a high ropes facility, caving simulator and climbing wall.

Lt Colonel Jennifer Painting, Commanding Officer for the Joint Services Mountain Training Centre, commented: “The new location and facilities at Halton will allow us to deliver high quality adventurous training for our service personnel enabling them to become better leaders and better team members while developing their resilience and self-awareness.”

Darren Parker, Managing Director for Galliford Try Building North West, commented: “We are delighted to once again be partnering with DIO to construct this new scheme. As a business we have a strong track record in defence training projects and take pride in our role in providing our Armed Forces personnel with the first-class facilities they deserve.”
