Morrison Construction Building Central and Galliford Try Building London and South East Commercial have been shortlisted at this year’s British Construction Industry Awards (BCIA) and the Building Awards 2024.
Shortlisted for the BCIA Commercial Property Project of the Year category, which celebrates exceptional new commercial and mixed-use buildings, are Morrison Construction's Building Central’s award-winning National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) flagship research and development facility, and Building London and South East Commercial’s complex reconstruction of the 1920s building 1-4 Marble Arch, now known as ‘One Great Cumberland Place’.
Both projects were also shortlisted at the Building Awards UK in their respective categories. The NMIS project, designed by HLM Architects, won the Offsite Project of the Year Award last year and is now shortlisted for the ‘Delivering Social Value Award.’ It has received multiple accolades for the team’s community efforts, including the Community Wealth Building prize at the ROCCO Awards. This recognition highlights the value added to the community through their tailored Social Value Project Plan.
Additionally, One Great Cumberland Place, which recently won the Steel Award at the Schüco Excellence Awards, has been shortlisted in the ‘Building Magazine Project of the Year’ category. This BREEAM Excellent project, designed by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, involved retaining the existing 1920s-built façade using a complex framework, followed by a ‘top down’ floor-by-floor demolition, executed on behalf of The Portman Estate.
Bill Hocking, Chief Executive for Galliford Try, commented: “We are delighted to have Morrison Construction’s National Manufacturing Institute Scotland and Galliford Try’s One Great Cumberland Place shortlisted for the BCIA and Building Awards 2024. These nominations are a testament to our commitment to exceptional design, innovative construction, and impactful community engagement.”
The winners will be announced on 9 October 2024, at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel in London for the BCIA awards, and on 5 November 2024, at the Grosvenor House Hotel for the Building Awards.
