The restoration of Moseley Road Baths - one of only six Grade II* listed swimming baths in the UK and among the oldest in the country - attracted national attention during National Trust’s National Heritage Week.
Kevin McCloud MBE, famous for his presenting Channel 4’s Grand Designs, attended one of a series of guided tours hosted by Galliford Try with the National Trust, offering the public a unique behind-the-scenes look at the restoration works. The events generated excitement around the project, including a subsequent visit by the local BBC West Midlands team.
Works include the reconfiguration of visitor and reception spaces, the installation of renewable energy technologies including air source heat pumps, permanent level access to both buildings, and the restoration of the historic Balsall Heath Library, including lift access to a new mezzanine floor.
Simon Courtney, Managing Director for Galliford Try Building West Midlands and South West, said: “Seeing Moseley Road Baths featured by the BBC is fantastic recognition for a project that means so much to the local community. The restoration of Moseley Road Baths is about far more than preserving a historic building.
“It is helping to secure the future of a much-loved Birmingham landmark, delivering lasting benefits for local people, supporting skills development and employment opportunities, and ensuring this unique heritage asset can be enjoyed by future generations. Most importantly, it will enable the Baths to continue serving the community and building on the legacy created by those who use and cherish it.”
