Morrison Construction Regional Director, Stephen Slessor, has been appointed as the new President of the Chartered Institution Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES).

Steve began his career at Galliford Try in 2006 as a Quantity Surveyor, and has worked his way through the business to lead our Environment business within Scotland. The CICES is the leading professional body for specialists in geospatial engineering and commercial management in infrastructure.

Plans for Steve’s presidential year include introducing an online knowledge hub to support members in their professional development and improve support and communications internationally.

He is keen to keep academic pathways to civil engineering relevant and engaged with industry and has recently become a visiting professor at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen.

He commented: “I firmly believe that the expertise and opinions of civil engineering surveyors are both influential and necessary in driving transformational change. We need to build back from the coronavirus pandemic with a focus on sustainability of people and resources, and for that we need committed and focused professionals, who have their voices heard at the highest levels of decision making.”

Steve has set out his views in an introductory video for CICES. He has also been interviewed for the October edition of Civil Engineering Surveyor.
