The Rail business of Galliford Try has started work at Derby station under a £19 million design and build contract for platform modifications secured under its CP5 framework with Network Rail.

The first phase sees construction of a new 320-metre island platform with two lifts, a retail shell and waiting room and, following that, some existing platform ends will be reconstructed. Drainage into the River Derwent will be incorporated into the scheme. It is an integral part of a larger project to re-signal the station which will cut journey times and increase flexibility by segregating services.

Completion is set for this September.
