Galliford Try, one of the UK’s leading construction groups, announces that it has appointed Steve Slessor to lead its Environment business.

Steve, currently Regional Director of Galliford Try’s Environment operations in Scotland, is succeeding Ian Jones, who is retiring after a 41-year career with the business.

Ian began work for Lehane, Mackenzie and Shand, a British civil engineering and construction company in 1979, which was later acquired by Morrison Construction. Following a series of promotions, Ian was appointed Managing Director of the Water business in August 2010 and has since taken leadership of all our Environment activities.

Steve has been with Galliford Try since 2006 after joining as a Quantity Surveyor, working his way up to lead the Environment operation in Scotland. He will take up his new role on 1 March 2021 with Ian retiring in June 2021 to ensure a smooth and effective hand over.

Paul Ingham, the current Head of Service Delivery, Water Frameworks, Scotland will be promoted to Steve’s previous role as Regional Director leading our Environment activities in Scotland.

Bill Hocking, Chief Executive of Galliford Try, commented: “Ian has given an entire career’s worth of service to our business and has played a key part in shaping the way our Environment business operates, particularly in the water sector. He leaves big shoes to fill but it is testament to the strength of our business that we have an excellent successor in Steve ready to take that step up.

“I thank Ian for all his efforts over the years and congratulate Steve and Paul on their deserved promotions. I look forward to working with them and the Environment team as we look to build on recent framework successes and continue to deliver for our clients and stakeholders.”
