Galliford Try is pleased to announce that it has made another key appointment within its Highways business, with Richard Towse taking the role of Commercial Director.

Richard joins the Group with more than 30 years’ experience in construction, the last 20 of which have been in senior positions in the civil engineering industry. Most recently, Richard was Commercial Director at construction engineering company Volker Stevin where he played a pivotal part in growing the business sustainably. He has also carried out senior roles for Carillion, Alfred McAlpine, Balfour Beatty and Morgan Sindall.

In his new position, Richard will be responsible for growing Galliford Try’s market share in the Highways sector, a key focus of the Group’s Sustainable Growth Strategy, leading on commercial activities and overseeing relationships with key clients.

Commenting on the appointment, David Lowery, Managing Director of Galliford Try Highways, said: “Galliford Try has a very exciting future in the Highways sector. We are being increasingly recognised for our progressive culture, innovative mindset, and our commitment to our purpose to improve lives and we have a clear ambition to increase our market share as part of the Group’s Sustainable Growth Strategy.

"Appointments such as this demonstrate our ability to consistently attract high calibre individuals to our business and I know that Richard, with his passion for all the right fundamentals of strategic thinking, risk management and inspiring a collaborative culture will be an excellent fit for our business and a great addition to our team.”

Richard added: “It’s been energising to see the journey Galliford Try has been on over the past 12 months and I am excited to be joining such a people-orientated, progressive organisation at such a pivotal time. I look forward to working with David Lowery and his team in developing, building and enhancing the infrastructure of tomorrow.”

Richard takes over from the outgoing David Bates who will remain with the business until the end of December.

Earlier this month, Galliford Try announced that Alison Chippington and Ondrej Humplik would join the business as Pre-Construction Director and Partnership Director for the Group’s National Highways RDP Framework, respectively.
