Galliford Try has begun work on the new £12.9m building for St Francis Catholic Primary School, part of the Mother Teresa Catholic Academy Trust in South Ascot, Berkshire.

The project is being delivered under the Department for Education’s (DfE) School Rebuilding Programme. It will replace the existing school building which contains Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC).

Pupils and staff are being relocated into temporary accommodation during construction of the new building. The St Francis statue will be carefully re-sited within the building and wider grounds.

In addition, the scheme will also provide a new Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) and restore the existing playing field, with careful measures in place to protect local ecology throughout construction. The design incorporates building materials chosen to complement both the adjacent church and the surrounding woodland environment.

Gavin Bridge, Managing Director for Galliford Try Building Southern, said: “Works are now underway to create a new modern school, delivered in partnership with the Department for Education and the Mother Teresa Catholic Academy Trust. We are pleased to be providing a high-quality facility for pupils and staff at St Francis Catholic Primary School.”
