Galliford Try’s Building, West Midlands, has completed the highly-anticipated Shireland CBSO Academy in West Bromwich.

The Academy is the first state school in Britain to be established in partnership with a national orchestra; funded by the Department for Education (DfE). In collaboration with Shireland Collegaite Academy Trust and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the new school will offer students from Sandwell and the Wider West Midlands academic and musical excellence to 870 students aged between 11-18.

The completed project includes a new five-storey building, designed by ADP Architecture, and a new two-storey sports hall located on the adjacent Sandwell Road site. The facilities include a 300-seat performance hall, drama studio, specialist music and practice rooms, sports centre, activity studio, and external multi-use games areas.

Simon Courtney, Managing Director for Galliford Try West Midlands and South West, commented: “It’s fantastic to be part of a history-making project, as the first of its type in the country. Our team have met the challenge to create a high-quality school, that will not only create an opportunity to nurture musical talent for the students at Shireland, but will also continue to contribute to the significant surrounding music community in the West Midlands.”
