Galliford Try has successfully handed over the new Net Zero Carbon in Operation (NZCiO) Benton Park Primary School in Newcastle.

Delivered through the Department for Education’s Medium Value Framework, the new two-storey school incorporates a range of sustainable features, including a biosolar green roof, rooftop photovoltaic panels and energy-efficient building systems.

The new school will provide modern learning facilities for 420 pupils aged three to 11, including 26 full-time nursery places and a specialist special educational needs and disabilities provision with 12 guaranteed places for deaf pupils.

Alongside creating high-quality, inclusive teaching spaces, the project has enhanced the school's existing forest school area, providing lasting benefits for pupils and the wider community.

Throughout construction, the project team demonstrated an outstanding commitment to quality and responsible construction, achieving an impressive 99% score during its latest Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) assessment, with particular recognition for its work in supporting the community, protecting the environment and valuing the workforce.

Jeremy Barnett, Managing Director for Galliford Try Building North East and Yorkshire, said: "We're delighted to hand over the new school building to Benton Park, providing a modern learning environment that will better serve the needs of students and staff.

"Our site team has been outstanding throughout the project, successfully overcoming the challenges of working in close proximity to a live school environment. Congratulations to everyone involved in delivering this fantastic new facility."
