Galliford Try has commenced work on a new £14.1m building for Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School in Barrow-in-Furness, providing a permanent home for pupils following the closure of the previous building in 2023.
The project will deliver a new two-storey school for 210 pupils, creating a modern learning environment designed to support an inclusive approach to education.
The team is currently completing the demolition of the existing school and former Presbytery, clearing the way for construction of the new building.
The scheme is a key project for the Department for Education (DfE), and, once complete, will provide high-quality facilities to support Sacred Heart’s broad curriculum and its commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment where every pupil can reach their potential.
Darren Parker, Managing Director of Galliford Try Building North West, said: “We are delighted to be progressing this important project for Sacred Heart and the wider Barrow-in-Furness community.
“The new school will provide pupils and staff with the high-quality, permanent learning environment they deserve, and we look forward to working with the DfE and school community to bring these new facilities to life.”
Construction of the new school is scheduled for completion in Autumn - Winter 2027.
