Galliford Try has celebrated a significant milestone in the redevelopment of Wigan town centre, with a topping out ceremony held at the new Hampton by Hilton hotel at Fettlers, a £135m regeneration project transforming the former Galleries shopping centre into a vibrant new neighbourhood in the heart of Wigan.
Representatives from development partner Cityheart, Wigan Council and Galliford Try’s project team gathered on site to mark the occasion, marking progress on the six-storey, 144-bedroom hotel, which is scheduled to open in winter 2027.
The hotel will feature meeting facilities, a gym and dining space, while creating more than 40 jobs when operational. The milestone comes as work continues across Fettlers, with Galliford Try also delivering the new £39.4m, 70,000 sq ft Market Hall, scheduled to open later this year. Future phases will introduce further leisure and entertainment facilities, including a cinema, bowling alley and food and drink venues, alongside more than 400 new homes and a landscaped public square.
Darren Parker, Managing Director of Galliford Try Building North West, said: “Reaching this milestone is a proud moment for everyone involved and reflects the hard work of our site team and supply chain partners. Fettlers represents an important investment in Wigan’s future, revitalising the town centre, and creating new opportunities for people to live, work and visit, and we are pleased to be working alongside Cityheart and Wigan Council to bring this ambitious regeneration project to life.”
