Galliford Try has marked the start of construction at Forestdale Primary School in Birmingham under the Constructing West Midlands Framework with a groundbreaking ceremony.
As part of the tradition, representatives from Forestdale Primary School, Acivico Group, Constructing West Midlands, Birmingham City Council and members of the Galliford Try team gathered to witness the first spade breaking ground, marking the commencement of the project.
The new Forestdale Primary School will provide a one-form entry primary school for 210 pupils, a small nursery for 24 children, and 41 dedicated spaces for students with special educational needs, with additional breakout spaces.
Design features will also include outdoor play areas, a playing field, and a Multi-Use Games Area, alongside dedicated parking for both the school and the new community hub.
The £10.3m project will be located on the site of the Old North Worcestershire Golf Club, within one mile of its current location, and will replace the existing school. It will serve both the new housing development and families from the surrounding estate, as well as current pupils. These improvements align with Birmingham City Council’s strategy to provide local school places closer to home, benefiting both current and future residents.
Simon Courtney, Managing Director of Galliford Try Building West Midlands and South West, said: “Starting work on Forestdale Primary School marks an exciting step forward for the local community. This new, purpose‑built school will provide modern, inclusive spaces that support every child’s ability to learn and develop. Working closely with Birmingham City Council, we’re proud to help deliver high‑quality education facilities that will benefit families now and long into the future.”
