Galliford Try has signed a contract with the Department for Education (DfE) to deliver the new £12.6m Thorn Grove Primary School in Cheadle.

The project will see the construction of a new single-storey school building on the existing sports pitches, alongside the demolition of the current buildings and the creation of new sports facilities.

The school will be constructed using a steel frame design and will incorporate a range of sustainable features, including ground source heat pumps and photovoltaic panels across the roof.

A key element of the scheme is the inclusion of a dedicated hearing-impaired unit, designed to support pupils as they integrate into mainstream education throughout their time at the school. The bespoke facility builds on Galliford Try’s extensive experience within the education sector and strengthens the business’ expertise in delivering inclusive learning environments.

The project team has worked closely with the DfE throughout the pre-construction process to ensure the design meets all requirements, with construction having started in April 2026.

Darren Parker, Managing Director for Galliford Try Building North West, said: “We are delighted to have signed the contract to deliver the new Thorn Grove Primary School and continue our strong relationship with the Department for Education.

“This project demonstrates our expertise in creating high-quality, sustainable and inclusive learning environments that meet the needs of pupils and staff. We look forward to delivering a facility that will support the school community for years to come.”
