Galliford Try appointed to deliver landmark Al Qasimi Building at University of Exeter 

Galliford Try has been appointed to deliver the prestigious Al Qasimi Building at the University of Exeter, a new focal point for Exeter’s student community. 

Funded by a philanthropic gift from His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah and alumnus of the University, the project will provide an inclusive space for students to gather, interact and learn in a setting that celebrates diversity, interconnectivity and sustainability. 

Delivered through the Southern Construction Framework (SCF), the scheme will comprise an architecturally striking two and three-storey structure designed to accommodate teaching and research functions, with panoramic views across Whitcombe Way Valley Park and Exwick Woods. 

In addition, the proposal includes improved landscaping within the former Walled Gardens adjacent to Reed Mews. A new courtyard garden will incorporate the qualities of a quadrilateral garden, commonly seen in classic English country gardens, with Italianate landscapes and formal Middle Eastern designs. There will also be improved accessibility, with a new accessible path linking the new building to the central area of the campus.
