Galliford Try Infrastructure’s A47 Blofield to North Burlingham project has reached a significant milestone, with the scheme now fully open for traffic (OfT).
Following 18 months of construction, the new 2.6-mile stretch of dual carriageway has been successfully opened to the public, providing two lanes in each direction and a 70mph speed limit.
To mark the achievement, the project team gathered for a celebratory photograph on the Blofield overbridge before coming together later in the afternoon for a team barbecue at a local riverside venue.
With the scheme’s opening coinciding with the pre-election period, celebrations were held internally alongside client National Highways, with plans for a larger external event involving local MPs, distinguished guests and the media scheduled for June.
Alongside delivering a range of long-term benefits such as improved safety through fewer collisions and more reliable journey times by reducing congestion and delays the new scheme will also support sustainable economic growth by unlocking employment and housing opportunities, while enhancing facilities for cyclists and pedestrians.
Tom Farley, Galliford Try Project Director for A47 Blofield, said: “I’m hugely proud of the team for the effort and commitment they’ve shown to get the new A47 stretch between Blofield and North Burlingham open on time for local people. This milestone reflects an immense collaborative effort and after 18 months of hard work, it’s incredibly rewarding to see the road in use, delivering a safer, more efficient journey for everyone who relies on this route.”
