We recognised that the majority of sustainability impacts arising from construction occur during a building’s occupation. We therefore work closely with our customers to understand their aspirations in this area and deliver tailored and innovative solutions.
At a minimum we always evaluate and mitigate any negative impacts that our construction may have on protected wildlife and biodiversity as part of our site specific environmental management plans. In Linden Homes, where we are involved in the purchase of land, we adopt site specific biodiversity plans at the project planning stage. These are based on an independent ecological survey of the site which is conducted in all but exceptional circumstances (i.e. where construction is only occurring on the footprint of existing buildings) and last year resulted in 54% of sites implementing an initiative to enhance ecological value.
