Lakeside Shopping Centre The Boardwalk

Client: Capital Shopping Centres
Value: £9.5 million
Location: Essex

This project involved the complete strip out back to the shell and demolition of existing link structure that connected the boardwalk building to Lakeside shopping centre.

The structural works included marine piling along the south side of the existing boardwalk to widen the existing boardwalk structure, CFA piling to the new link structure to provide larger retail units and the subdivision of the existing shell area to provide a total of 14 individual restaurant and theme bar units. The existing Boardwalk shell was completely re-clad with a combination of traditional cladding along the service road elevation and timber cladding alongside the boardwalk elevation including the provision of new windows, sun shades and canopies.

Internally the scope of works included the provision of all incoming services, fit out of all back of house areas, life safety services and the complete fit out of malls and main entrances including refurbished escalators and staircases.

Externally the existing boardwalk structure was widened and strengthened and all existing boardwalk decking was replaced with new ceder decking. The existing link structure to the New Orleans floating restaurant, which had to be temporarily relocated until the boardwalk works were completed, was also adapted and refurbished.
