Galliford Try is a national housebuilding and construction company delivering industry leading performance in the construction of a sustainable future.
Client: Network Rail
Value: £1.8 million
Location: Birmingham
When the existing carriage wash at the Soho Depot in Birmingham reached the end of its useful life, Network Rail contracted Galliford Try to demolish the existing wash on the main line and construct a new one.
To facilitate the works without disruption to services, a rail loop was constructed to divert traffic around the wash plant site. Advantage was taken of the bi-directional nature of the track while designing the wash equipment to install a state-of-the-art, bi-directional facility.
Works included track work, overhead electrification, mechanical and electrical work and civil engineering.
