Galliford Try is a national housebuilding and construction company delivering industry leading performance in the construction of a sustainable future.
Client: British Antarctic Survey
Value: £3 million
Location: Rothera, Antarctica
Galliford Try constructed a new welfare building to provide life support services at the heart of the Rothera Research facility allowing for the connection of the building to other possible future developments.
The steel framed building is clad with thermally efficient structural insulated panels, maximising the energy efficiency and minimise running costs. The use of the steel frame with a lightweight concrete flooring system allows full internal flexibility of layout enabling the building to be easily adapted to meet future requirements.
Snow modelling and innovative design provide a building that will lessen the impact of snow drifting and minimise the resources needed to maintain access throughout the year.
