Galliford Try was contracted to construct the foundations for five Enercon E33 wind turbines, including chartering suitable shipping and transporting for all materials and equipment from the UK to Ascension Island, an isolated island in the South Atlantic Ocean, roughly midway between the horn of South America and Africa.

Other works included:

  • Construction of access tracks for tower erection equipment, using local material.
  • Trenching and ducting of cables conduits.
  • Excavation and construction of sub-bases for five prefabricated transformer houses and one mains switch house.
  • The completed wind farm has a projected potential power output of 330kw per turbine with an anticipated total output in excess of 1MW.
