Reservoir Security for Potable Water

Client: Scottish Water
Value: £19 million
Location: 587 sites throughout Scottish Highlands and Islands

Galliford Try assisted Scottish Water to bring all of its treated water storage points (tanks containing treated water at atmospheric pressure) into compliance with National Government Advice Notes for Service Reservoir Security.

From initial survey and agreement of the site specific security ratings, design work packs were produced for each site to include all physical, electronic and communication specifications in line with the security team’s requirements. This led to innovative and cost saving initiatives that provided significant efficiencies throughout the programme.

The alarm system was required to detect an attempted attack early on through various means. Galliford Try integrated a Home Office Scientific Development Branch (HOSDB) approved alarm system into existing operational assets whilst maintaining site security and managing client site operational functionality requirements.

The integration of the alarm analyser outputs with dual path communication links to a central flight desk using GSM / satellite and telemetry links was also undertaken.
