Bermondsey Square

Client: Igloo Regeneration
Value: £35 million
Location: South London

The project involved the creation of a new public square in Bermondsey. Designed by Munkenbeck & Marshall, the project provides a major new cultural facility and enhanced marketing space.

The new development includes:

  • 100-bedroom hotel
  • Residential property including affordable housing
  • Retail units
  • Restaurants and wine bars
  • Offices
  • Cinema with outside screening facilities
  • A public square and outdoor market

The new public square caters for up to 200 market stalls and provides welfare and refreshment facilities for antiques traders and their clients. The square is also the focus of other community events outside market hours.

A driving force in the scheme is a practical sustainability strategy. The square is lit from above with giant chandeliers and the elevations of adjacent buildings are clad in monoflex artwork.
