Galliford Try was the principal contractor transforming Liverpool Women’s Hospital into one of Europe’s largest IVF centres.
The project involved the construction of a three-storey extension to the hospital’s Hewitt Centre for Reproductive Medicine.
Works entailed the remodelling of circa 8,502 sq m of accommodation and the creation of a new build extension providing circa 700 sq m per floor. Much of the remodelling work was completed in particularly sensitive live environments where the need for clean facilities is paramount. The accommodation is a mixture of administration, clinical and laboratory facilities.
The new unit was designed in consultation with patients to the very latest specifications and is providing cutting-edge technology in contemporary facilities. As well as a new embryology laboratory, the unit includes a dedicated recovery service for patients and a private, quiet area for couples. It also accommodates sperm bank and egg-freezing services, IVF treatment and other fertility treatments.
