Galliford Try is a national housebuilding and construction company delivering industry leading performance in the construction of a sustainable future.
Client: Anglian Water
Location: East Anglia
The Galliford Try and Imtech joint venture GTM has pioneered an innovative solution to a major sludge treatment scheme for East Anglia that is reaping substantial environmental and financial rewards.
GTM's design for the plants at Kings Lynn features an enhanced "Enzymatic Hydrolysis” process which treats sludge to a much higher standard than normally required and provides financially efficient options for utilization and disposal.
The treated sludge can be used as environmentally friendly soil fertilizer, the biosolids process results in significant regional benefits in reduced transportation and odour control. The process yields natural methane gas, which generates sufficient power for the plant but allows excess energy to be sold to the national grid.
Circa £6 million per annum in operating costs will be saved by the Anglian Water under the scheme which will treat a third of Anglian Water total sludge.
