This iconic building provides 112 bed-sit units, four wheelchair access units and two carer units for the rehabilitation and re-integration of 16-24 year old individuals back into work.
Associated accommodation was built for management staff comprising offices, interview rooms, training rooms, an ICT suite, kitchen, sanitary facilities, laundry and crèche.
A two storey office wing was constructed adjacent to the foyer for a partnering contract between the
London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and East Thames Housing Association for the provision of associated training and health care services.
The structure is a nine storey concrete frame, with an envelope comprising a combination of rain screen cladding, glazed curtain walling and insulated render. The roof system is an inverted warm roof, with a combination of pavers, lawn and planting to create a roof top garden.
The design and build of Wakering Road foyer has benefited by the many methods of modern construction throughout, such as the installation of bathroom pods, ground source heat pumps, and in slab heating and cooling techniques successfully installed.
