Galliford Try appointed to major refurbishment at Catterick Garrison

Thursday, 13 July 2017 @ 10:53

Galliford Try’s Building business has been awarded a contract for the £60 million construction works at Marne and Bourlon Barracks at Catterick Garrison, by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO).

The refurbishment scheme is taking place under the Army Basing Programme (ABP), which is providing the necessary facilities the British Army needs to live, work and train in the UK as it returns from Germany and rebases across the UK in line with the Army 2020 plan. The redevelopment programme will include the new Officers’ and Junior Ranks’ single living accommodation, a Senior Non Commissioned Officers’ mess, armoury, squadron offices, Quartermaster department and a multi-use games area, as well as a comprehensive refurbishment including the listed Sandhurst block at Bourlon Barracks.

The contract was awarded through the DIO’s Next Generation Estates framework (NGEC), which has seen Galliford Try earn recent successes at RNAS Yeovilton and the £135 million redevelopment of RAF Marham in joint venture with Lagan Construction.

Keith Yarham, Defence Director for Galliford Try, commented: “We are delighted to have secured this contract through the NGEC framework. The defence sector has been identified as a key area of growth for our business and this prestigious contract to rebuild these historic barracks at Catterick is another huge step forward in meeting our strategic goals.”

Major Andy Carnochan, ABP Requirements Manager said: “This is an important milestone to enable the timely delivery of infrastructure at Catterick. I very much look forward to working closely with Galliford Try to deliver this project.”
