Moray Wastewater

For more than a century more than 20 short sea outfalls between Burghead and Macduff have discharged untreated sewage into the Moray Firth.

New European Union regulations call for treatment of all sewage to much higher standards prior to discharge into the Firth and the solution was to intercept the outfalls and pump the sewage to three new wastewater treatment works.

In addition to these works, Catchment has also taken on the responsibility for the treatment of all the wastewater in the area, stretching along the Moray Coast from Burghead to Macduff.

The local environment of the Moray coast has substantially been enhanced through the completion of this scheme and will continue to do so as Catchment operates under strict performance criteria for the standard of effluent.
