BT WiFi

Galliford Try has delivered contiguous wireless city coverage for BT offering a network infrastructure for a variety of clientele and applications such as public safety services and public access WLAN hotspot providers (BT Open zone) as well as enhanced services for cellular operators via the Microconnect Distributed Antenna (MDA) system. With this project BT intends to create a common infrastructure delivering:
 
  • WiFi for the consumer and enterprise services using the WLAN (802.11) standards
  • MDA coverage for enhancement of existing mobile operators GSM and UMTS coverage
               
Our scope of services includes:
 
Radio Planning
 
  • Conduct city feasibility studies identifying areas of high footfall traffic and local public interest.
  • Conduct “sniffer testing” identifying any capacity or coverage gaps in existing main operator mobile coverage
  • Polygon of coverage for each city
  • Desktop radio plan using NP workplace software to deliver the required coverage to the identified polygon area
  • Conduct city wide surveys identifying the availability of suitable structures for the system deployment
  • Reiterate the radio plan to reflect the available structures and deliver -63dB contiguous coverage to the whole of the polygon area
 
Acquisition
 
  • Liaise with the local authority regarding the availability of the required structures
  • Negotiate terms and conditions for utilisation of the required structures including maintenance, planning and adaptations
  • Submit planning applications for all required developments
  • Conduct consultation with the council and mitigate all potential issues regarding the development
  • Advise BT on all planning issues and classifications
 
Design
 
  • Complete initial preliminary designs for all structures and infrastructure requirements
  • Prepare planning drawings for submission to the relevant authority
  • Prepare detailed designs for all structures for construction purposes
