Scotland's Drinking Water

Galliford Try assisted Scottish Water to bring all of its treated water storage points (i.e. tanks containing treated water at atmospheric pressure) into compliance with national Government advice notes and the Association of Chief Police Officers for service reservoir security.

One of the most challenging requirements was to integrate a Home Office Scientific Development Branch (HOSDB) approved alarm system into existing operational assets whilst maintaining site security and managing client operational functionality requirements. Included in the scope was the integration of the alarm analyser outputs with dual path communication links to a central flight-desk using GSM / satellite and telemetry links.

Loss Prevention Certification Board (LCBP) approved doors, hatches, windows bar-sets and alternative measures were all a basic requirement on the asset locations. All cabling containment and ducting routes needed to be physically secured along with all entry points to buildings. Bespoke solutions for particular assets (including Perimter Intruder Detection Systems and CCTV) all required on site agreement and design approval before successful manufacture and fitting.

Product selection and evaluation of trial site demonstrations provided a balanced platform of vendors. Correct selection and engagement of contractors applicable to their core skill set led to assured program delivery profiles. This led to innovative and cost saving initiatives providing significant efficiencies throughout the program.

From the initial capital expenditure build up to the final output claim and acceptance from the Water Industry Commission (WIC) and Drinking Water Quality Regulator (DWQR), Galliford Try played a pivotal role in the program delivery.
